The Aditya Birla Group initiated World Class Manufacturing (WCM) in 1996. This was based on the practices of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Total Quality Management (TQM) in order to achieve excellence in manufacturing. The WCM Excellence Framework was introduced in 1998-1999 to assess these practices in each manufacturing unit. The need for a Business Excellence Framework arose after the Group forayed into the services business such as financial, retail and BPO. It was also felt that the entire business, including manufacturing, should be covered under the Business Excellence Framework. Thus, the Aditya Birla Business Excellence Framework was introduced in 2011 to encompass the entire business including central processes like financial management, marketing, supply chain, R&D and sustainability.
Tier 1: This is the outer circle or the Aditya Birla Chemicals Business values which together form the core ideology.
Tier 2: These are the fundamental Tenets of Excellence or the underlying principles which form the foundation for any organisation to achieve sustainable excellence.
Tier 3: The Aditya Birla Business Excellence Framework is the backbone for businesses to realise the Vision by addressing challenges. It converts the Tenets into practice by using a structured measurement methodology. This framework ensures that the organisational review remains holistic, that is, it encompasses all levels of the organisation and considers all factors that can influence performance. It enables any organisation to clarify the factors inhibiting or accelerating organisational advancement and provides the tools to implement targeted strategies.
